Telegram Walked Away.
Then Walked Back In.
The bull case for Gram, the coin that was Toncoin until June 2026, as the people who hold it make it, and the case against at the same weight, starting with the SEC case that nearly ended it.
Gram is the native coin of The Open Network, called Toncoin, ticker TON, until holders voted to rename it on 15 June 2026. It began as Telegram’s own project, abandoned in 2020 after an SEC action. Independent developers relaunched it, and in 2026 Telegram took over stewardship again.

The Bull Case, As Bulls Make It
Five arguments, stated at their strongest. This is the case the people who hold it make, not a forecast from this site.
Telegram Is Back Behind It
In 2026 Pavel Durov announced Telegram would take over stewardship from the TON Foundation and become the network’s primary validator and largest stakeholder. Bulls argue no other chain has a messaging app with that reach committed to it. Source: crypto.news.
Faster And Cheaper
The roadmap behind the rename included the Catchain 2.0 upgrade, described as a tenfold speed improvement, and a sixfold fee reduction. Source: crypto.news.
It Survived The Hardest Start
The original project was stopped by the SEC and abandoned by its founder. The code was open, independent developers relaunched it, and it outlived the lawsuit that was supposed to end it. Source: crypto.news.
Holders Decide
The rename passed a community vote with 81.22 per cent support on 2 June 2026, and converted every balance one to one with nothing for holders to do. Source: crypto.news.
The Name Came Home
Gram was the token’s name in Telegram’s original design. Bulls read the return of the name as the network completing the loop back to the company that started it.
The Case Against, At The Same Weight
The other half. If you skip it you are reading an advertisement.
The SEC Already Won Once
A court issued a preliminary injunction on 24 March 2020, finding the SEC had shown a substantial likelihood that Telegram’s sales were part of a scheme to distribute Grams unlawfully. Telegram returned over $1.2 billion and paid an $18.5 million penalty on 26 June 2020. The company is now back. Source: SEC.
One Company Is The Validator
Telegram as primary validator and largest stakeholder concentrates control of the network in one private company, which is the opposite of the reason most people want a blockchain.
Faster Means More Supply
The speed upgrade was expected to raise annual inflation from about 0.6 per cent to about 3.6 per cent, and only about 2.8 billion of roughly 5.25 billion are circulating. Sources: crypto.news; CoinGecko.
Down From The High
It was about 83 per cent below the June 2024 high on 19 September 2026, $1.39 against $8.25. Source: CoinGecko.
Rebrands Are Not Results
A new name and a roadmap step are announcements. What the rename changes for anyone using the network is still to be shown.
What I Take From It
Not advice. How the argument reads to someone who builds businesses rather than trades tokens.
Distribution Beats Technology
The entire bull case is Telegram’s reach. A channel that already has the users is worth more than a better product that has to find them, in crypto and everywhere else.
The Same Founder Brings The Same Risk
The company that made it valuable is the one a regulator stopped last time. Bringing it back brings both of those facts back together.
Read The Structure, Not The Name
Who validates, who holds the most and what gets printed next are the questions that matter here. The ticker changed; none of those did.
