Airbnb Management Squamish.
For The Home You Live In.

Squamish licenses short term rentals in a principal residence only, held by an individual rather than a company, and it is stricter than the provincial rule it sits under. The non principal residence route is closed: all thirty permits have been issued.

Squamish permits short term rentals in your principal residence only, and the licence must be held by an individual rather than a company. It costs $400 a year, a secondary suite or coach house is excluded, and all thirty non principal residence permits have been issued.

What Squamish Actually Requires

Four rules decide whether a property can operate at all. Every figure here was read off the District of Squamish and Province of BC sites on 15 September 2026 and is cited at the bottom of this page.

Principal Residence, Held By A Person

The District requires that you are an individual, not a business or corporation, and that the unit is your principal residence: the address you use for bills, ID, taxes and insurance. A holding company cannot hold this licence.

District of Squamish eligibility criteria

Stricter Than The Province

British Columbia allows a principal residence plus one secondary suite or accessory dwelling unit. Squamish disqualifies a secondary suite or coach house outright. The municipal rule governs. Do not furnish a suite on the strength of the provincial rule.

Four Hundred A Year, Renewed Annually

The principal residence licence is $400 a year and renews annually with documentation refreshed each time. The non principal residence class is $3,000, and it requires a Temporary Use Permit. All thirty of those have been issued.

Licence and renewal handled under management

Two Numbers On The Listing

A District business licence number and a provincial registration number, at $100 a year per unit where you live. A listing missing either can be removed by the platform, and fines run to $3,000 per day, per offence.

What I Run In Squamish

One team instead of three vendors pointing at each other. Twenty percent of net revenue, month to month, no onboarding fee and no monthly minimum.

Guest Communication

Fast responses, pre arrival messaging, check in support and full stay coverage, on the same clock as every property under management. You never have to answer a guest.

Turnover Management

Scheduling, quality control, laundry and staging on every reset, with photo proof filed against the property. Outside Calgary the crew is local, vetted and run to the CleanStays standard.

Issue Coordination

Maintenance, access problems and urgent requests routed to a vetted local trade and quoted before any work happens. Nothing gets done and then billed.

Listing And Rate Strategy

Photography direction, title, description and amenity strategy, plus pricing and review management. In a capped market the calendar is managed for rate, not for occupancy.

Registration And Tax Admin

Registration, annual renewal, the licence number displayed on the listing, and accommodation tax tracked and remitted. The part owners forget until the city writes to them.

What Is Different About Squamish

The two things that catch owners here, and the one I will not pretend about.

Grandfathering Is Gone

The Province states plainly that protections for non-conforming use of property no longer apply to short term rentals in British Columbia. An operation that predates the rules is not protected by predating them. If you were counting on being grandfathered in, you are not.

Your Strata Is An Independent Veto

The District tells applicants directly to check whether their strata bylaws allow short term rental, and a renter needs the owner’s written permission. A municipal licence does not override a strata prohibition, and no amount of paperwork at the District fixes one.

Calgary Crews Do Not Drive To Squamish

CleanStays and Wise Property Services are Calgary companies with Calgary crews. In Squamish I manage the property and coordinate vetted local cleaning and trades against the same written standard. Said plainly here rather than implied everywhere else.

Why Guests Book Squamish

Outdoor recreation drives this market, and the Province funds it as a tourism destination. These are the drivers a listing is positioned against.

The Sea To Sky Gondola

The gondola, the suspension bridge and the viewing platform are the single largest published visitor draw in town, and they run year round.

Shannon Falls And The Chief

Shannon Falls and the Stawamus Chief are both provincial parks minutes from the highway. Squamish is a stop on the way to Whistler that increasingly is not a stop.

BC Parks, Shannon Falls

Climbing, Biking And Kiteboarding

The Chief for climbing, the Diamond Head and Alice Lake trail networks for riding, and the Squamish Spit for wind. This is a market where the guest arrives with equipment, which changes what the property has to offer.

A Funded Destination

The Province put $999,250 of Destination Development Fund money into the Squamish Adventure Centre, and a separate Tourism Dependent Communities grant of $700,000 into upgrades. The fund names tell you how the Province classifies this town.

Squamish Questions

Yes, if the unit is your principal residence and you are applying as an individual rather than a company. Squamish licenses short term rental accommodation in a principal residence for $400 a year. The route for a property you do not live in is a Temporary Use Permit, and the District has issued the maximum of thirty of those.

No. Squamish lists a secondary suite or coach house as a disqualifying condition. This is stricter than the provincial rule, which allows a principal residence plus one secondary suite or accessory dwelling unit. The municipal rule governs in Squamish, so do not furnish a suite on the strength of the provincial one.

The District of Squamish charges $400 a year for a short term rental accommodation business licence in a principal residence, renewed annually. On top of that, the provincial short term rental registry charges $100 a year per unit where the host lives, plus a service fee. Both numbers must appear on the listing.

The District states that operators without a business licence, or without the licence number in all online listings and advertising, may be subject to fines of up to $3,000 per offence, and separately that operators may face fines of $3,000 per day, per offence. A single non compliant listing left up for a month is not a one time exposure.

No. The Province of British Columbia states that protections for non-conforming use of property no longer apply to short term rentals. An operation that predates the current rules is not protected by predating them. If you have been operating without a licence, the exposure is live rather than historical.

No. Wise Property Management is a Calgary company and it manages properties across Canada. In Squamish I run the property and coordinate vetted local cleaning and trades to the same written standard used in Calgary. The in house crews, CleanStays and Wise Property Services, are Calgary only. That is said here rather than discovered later.

Twenty percent of net revenue, month to month, with no onboarding fee and no monthly minimum. Cleaning is billed to the guest as a turnover fee rather than to you, and maintenance is quoted before any work happens. The fee is the same in every market.
