The Third Category
Costs You The Cash.
The third two percent category is not free. Tangerine grants it only if the rewards are paid into a Tangerine Savings Account instead of back onto the card. Two categories otherwise. I carry this card. Every figure here is off Tangerine, read 6 September 2026.
The Tangerine Money-Back World Mastercard has no annual fee. It pays two percent in two categories you choose, or three if your rewards are deposited to a Tangerine Savings Account, and 0.50 percent on everything else, with no cap. It requires $50,000 personal income. I hold this card. Not advice.
On Chosen Categories
Two of them, or three with a Tangerine Savings Account.
On Everything Else
The base rate. No cap on either rate.
Foreign Conversion
Published on the product page. Most issuers here do not publish theirs.
Income Required
Or $80,000 household, or $250,000 held at Tangerine.
What The Card Is
Read off Tangerine on 6 September 2026, in their words before mine.
The Third Category Costs You The Cash
Tangerine states two percent applies in two categories if your Redemption Destination is the Credit Card, and three if it is a Tangerine Savings Account. The extra category is paid for by giving up the statement credit. That is a real trade, not a bonus, and Tangerine words it as a choice rather than a condition.
Thirteen Categories, And Foreign Currency Is One Of Them
Drug stores, restaurants, entertainment, furniture, gas, grocery, home improvement, hotels and motels, public transportation and parking, recurring bill payment, fitness and sports clubs, e-games, and foreign currency purchases. Choosing the last one turns the 2.50 percent conversion fee into a net 0.50 percent cost.
There Is No Cap
Tangerine markets “2% unlimited cash back” and the programme terms state no annual or per category limit. On a site where almost every accelerated rate has a cap this page has to print, this one does not.
The Name Changed In October 2025
Tangerine’s notice of changes records the product moving from Tangerine World Mastercard to Tangerine Money-Back World Mastercard effective 25 October 2025. Same card, and the same date the category list grew to thirteen.
The Arithmetic On A Free Card
There is no fee, so every number here is about the rate.
The Third Category Is Worth 1.5 Percent Of Its Own Spend
Moving a category from 0.50 to 2 percent gains 1.5 percent on whatever goes through it. On $10,000 a year in that category, that is $150. The cost is that all your rewards now land in a savings account rather than against the card.
Foreign Currency As A Category Nets To 0.50 Percent
Tangerine charges 2.50 percent to convert and pays 2 percent back if foreign currency is one of your chosen categories. The net cost of spending abroad becomes half a percent. That is not free, and it is far cheaper than the 2.50 percent most cards on this site charge with nothing back.
The Base Rate Is The Weak Half
0.50 percent on everything outside your categories is a quarter of what a flat two percent card pays. This card wins on concentrated spend and loses on scattered spend, and which one you are is answerable from a statement.
The Welcome Offer Wants $1,500 In 90 Days
$100 at $1,500 of net purchases inside 90 days is 6.7 percent on that spend, on top of the base earn. Applications close 30 September 2026 and the card must be activated within 45 days of approval.
The Case Against Carrying It
Same standard as every other page here.
Tangerine Publishes Two Different Interest Rates For It
Both product pages and the comparison table say 20.95 percent on purchases and 22.95 on cash advances. Tangerine’s own World Mastercard offer page says 19.95 percent on purchases and cash advances. Same issuer, same card, two numbers. See below.
The Site Lists Travel Insurance The Certificate Does Not Carry
Tangerine’s comparison table lists travel emergency medical, trip cancellation and trip interruption on this card. The October 2025 certificate of insurance contains none of those sections. See below. Do not treat this card as travel cover.
The Income Bar Is The Real Gate
$50,000 personal, $80,000 household, or $250,000 held in Tangerine savings or investment accounts. The base Money-Back card asks $12,000 and pays the same rates on the same categories. The World version buys insurance and lounge access, not a better earn rate.
Rewards Land Monthly, Not On Demand
Tangerine credits or deposits on or about the billing date each month. There is no redemption you control and no accumulating balance you can time.
How It Sits In A Stack
Not advice. How this card reads next to the others published here.
It Is The Free Card That Beats Paid Cash Back Cards On Rate
Two percent for nothing, in categories you choose, against a $120 card paying four percent in categories the issuer chose. Which wins is a division problem, and the free card wins more often than people expect.
Foreign Currency As A Category Is The Underrated Move
Almost every card on this site charges 2.50 percent abroad and pays nothing back on it. This card can pay two percent back on the same spend. For anyone who travels, that is the single most valuable category on the list.
It Is In My Wallet
One of the nine on the stack page. It costs nothing to hold, which means it never has to justify itself against a fee, only against the other free cards.
What Could Not Be Confirmed
In circulation, and not on the issuer page. Printed rather than dropped.
Which Interest Rate Is Right
Tangerine’s two product pages and its card comparison table state 20.95 percent on purchases and 22.95 percent on cash advances. Tangerine’s own World Mastercard offer page states 19.95 percent on purchases and cash advances and a 24.95 percent rate after two consecutive missed minimum payments. Two Tangerine pages, two answers. The product page figures are printed above because they appear in three places to the offer page’s one, and the disagreement is printed here rather than hidden.
The Travel Insurance Tangerine Lists
Tangerine’s credit card comparison table lists travel emergency medical for clients under 65, trip cancellation and trip interruption on this card. The card’s own certificate of insurance, amended and restated 25 October 2025, contains purchase assurance, extended warranty, mobile device and rental car sections only. No amount, age limit or day limit for any travel coverage appears anywhere on tangerine.ca. Treat it as unconfirmed until Tangerine publishes a certificate that carries it.
The Penalty Interest Rate
A 24.95 percent rate after two consecutive missed minimum payments appears only on the offer page. It is on neither product page nor in the cardholder agreement, which defers all rates to a per account disclosure statement that Tangerine does not publish.
Whether The Card Is Formally Uncapped
Tangerine markets “unlimited” and the programme terms state no cap. There is no affirmative “no cap” clause in the terms either. Absence of a cap is reported as absence of a stated cap.
All figures read off Tangerine’s own Canadian pages and linked PDFs for the Tangerine Money-Back World Mastercard on 6 September 2026: no annual fee on the card and no annual fee for up to five authorized user cards, two percent money back rewards on eligible net purchases in two qualifying categories where the redemption destination is the credit card and three qualifying categories where the redemption destination is a Tangerine Savings Account, 0.50 percent on all other net purchases, thirteen qualifying categories effective 25 October 2025 being drug stores, eating places, entertainment, furniture, gas, grocery, home improvements, hotels and motels, public transportation and parking, recurring bill payment, fitness and sports clubs, e-games and foreign currency net purchases, annual interest rates of 20.95% on purchases and 22.95% on cash advances as stated on both product pages and the comparison table, balance transfers treated as cash advances with a promotional 1.95% for six statement periods on balances transferred within the first 30 days at a 1% transfer fee against a regular 3% or $5.00 minimum, a cash advance fee of $3.50 within Canada and $5.00 outside Canada, over limit and dishonoured payment fees of $25.00, a foreign currency conversion fee of 2.50% added to the converted amount, minimum criteria of $50,000 gross annual income or $80,000 gross household income or $250,000 in Tangerine savings and investment accounts, mobile device insurance to a maximum of $1,000 per claim less a deductible of $25 to $100 by purchase price with 2% depreciation for each completed month and coverage running two years from purchase, purchase assurance for 90 days and an extended warranty doubling the manufacturer’s repair period to a maximum of one additional year against a combined $60,000 lifetime maximum, rental car collision and loss damage for rentals up to 31 consecutive days excluding vehicles with an actual cash value over $65,000 before taxes, rewards credited or deposited every month on or about the billing date, a welcome offer of $100 at $1,500 in net purchases within a 90 day promotional period for applications received by 30 September 2026 and activated within 45 days of approval, and a product name change from Tangerine World Mastercard effective 25 October 2025. Which interest rate is correct, the travel insurance listed in Tangerine’s comparison table, the penalty rate and whether the card is formally uncapped could not be resolved on tangerine.ca and are published above as unconfirmed. No figure on this page comes from a comparison site. Cody Wise holds this card.

Common Questions
No. Neither it nor the base Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card has an annual fee, and up to five authorized user cards are free. Read off Tangerine on 6 September 2026.
By setting your Redemption Destination to a Tangerine Savings Account. Tangerine grants two categories if rewards are credited to the credit card and three if they are deposited to a Tangerine Savings Account.
Thirteen as of 25 October 2025: drug stores, restaurants, entertainment, furniture, gas, grocery, home improvement, hotels and motels, public transportation and parking, recurring bill payment, fitness and sports clubs, e-games, and foreign currency purchases.
2.50 percent, added to the converted amount. If foreign currency is one of your chosen two percent categories, the net cost of spending abroad is 0.50 percent.
Tangerine states $50,000 gross annual income, or $80,000 gross household income, or $250,000 in Tangerine savings and investment accounts. The base Money-Back Credit Card asks $12,000 and pays the same rates.
A Rate Is Not A Return
Until You Spend There.
Every accelerated rate in Canada is a rate on one category. The only question that matters is whether that category is where your money actually goes.
Not financial advice.
