Crypto

In 1893 his alternating current lit the Chicago World’s Fair. Two years later his polyphase system went into Niagara Falls. The grid that charged your phone last night is, in its bones, Nikola Tesla’s design. He died in a New York hotel room in 1943, alone, in debt.

Being right is a technical achievement. Getting paid is a structural one. They are not the same skill and they do not arrive together.

Tesla won every argument that mattered. AC beat DC on physics, on distance, on cost, and the record shows he was correct on all three. What he did not win was the ownership question.

By most accounts he released Westinghouse from the royalty terms on his patents when the company hit a cash crunch, choosing the survival of the technology over his claim on it. The technology survived. So did the company. His claim did not. He kept the credit. Someone else kept the compounding.

The line of his worth carrying is this one: The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine.

It is a beautiful sentence. It is also the sentence of a man who has been out-structured and is consoling himself with chronology.

Crypto rewards the exact trait that killed him, and punishes it the exact same way.

Everyone in this space has met the guy who was right in 2013. Right about Solana before the rest of the room. Right about real world assets three years before a bank said the words out loud. Right, documented, early, and uncompensated. The forums are full of correct men with nothing to show for the correctness.

Being early is only an advantage if something underneath you is collecting while you wait. Otherwise early is just a longer stretch of being wrong in public.

The market does not pay for accuracy. It pays for position.

Three moves that separate correct from paid

Own a position, not an opinion. An opinion pays in attention. A position pays in cash. Equity, tokens with real rights attached, revenue share, the IP itself. If your thesis is right and you hold nothing, you have written a very good research note for someone else’s balance sheet.

Get paid while you are right. Conviction has a burn rate. The reason most people abandon a correct thesis is not that they stopped believing, it is that they ran out of runway holding it. Boring cash flow is what buys you the years the thesis needs. Structure the bet so that waiting is free.

Edison metered it. Tesla explained it.

Commercialize, do not evangelize. Edison did not sell electricity as an idea. He built Pearl Street Station and metered it. Same era, same current wars, opposite outcome. Tokenization is stuck in the evangelism phase for the same reason: plenty of people explaining the future, very few metering it.

The part nobody posts about

When I worked with QUBI DAO in Dubai on tokenized real world assets, the thesis was never the hard part. Real assets moving onto chains is not a controversial prediction, it is a scheduling question.

The hard part is the one that does not make a good thread: who holds what when it arrives, and on what terms. That is not a technology problem. That is a paperwork problem, and paperwork is where the value quietly settles.

Machiavelli warned that nothing is harder to carry out than a new order of things. That is not a reason to avoid new orders. It is a reason to own something before the fight resolves.

Tesla spent his late career funding experiments with money he did not have, because the structure that should have been paying him had been signed away during a cash crunch decades earlier. The technical genius was never the constraint. The terms were.

Be right. Then go get the paperwork.

Being right is a claim on the future. Ownership is a claim on the present. Only one of them pays rent while you wait.
