The Three That Set The Rules.
The collection everyone copied, the collection that turned into a company, and the collection that fired its own founders and got more valuable for it.
Three Ethereum NFT collections with a written breakdown each: CryptoPunks, which was given away free in June 2017, Bored Ape Yacht Club, which minted at 0.08 ETH in April 2021, and Pudgy Penguins, whose community voted out its own founders in January 2022. Every figure on these pages is dated and carries the publication it came from.
The Breakdowns
One collection at a time. What it was, what went wrong, and what it teaches.
CryptoPunks
Given Away For Free. Ten thousand pixel portraits nobody wanted, claimed for the price of gas, and now ten of them hang in the Museum of Modern Art.
Bored Ape Yacht Club
From $190 To $354,000 And Back. Ten thousand apes at eighty dollars of ether, a four billion dollar valuation eleven months later, and a celebrity ape that now takes bids in the low thousands.
Pudgy Penguins
The Founders Were Voted Out. Eight thousand eight hundred and eighty eight penguins, a community that removed its own founders in three days, a sale for 750 ETH at the bottom, and a toy business afterwards.
How This Hub Differs
Two honest differences from the Solana side of the site.
There Is No Live Table Here
The Solana NFT hub carries the twenty five busiest collections by volume, read from Magic Eden and refreshed hourly. There is no equivalent feed wired up for Ethereum on this site, so this hub carries written breakdowns and no ranking. A ranking I could not refresh would be worse than none.
One Brand Sits On Both Chains
Pudgy Penguins is an Ethereum ERC-721 and its PENGU token is a Solana SPL token. The collection is broken down here and the token is broken down with the Solana memecoins. Same brand, two chains, two assets, and mixing them up is the most common error made about this project.
Every Figure Is Dated
Floors, valuations and sale prices on these pages are snapshots with a date and a publication attached, not live numbers. A four year old floor price presented as current is how a breakdown becomes a pitch.
Allegations Are Attributed
Where a page reports an accusation, it names who made it and where it was published. Two of these three collections have been through a lawsuit or a public dispute, and reporting the accusation without the outcome is the mistake most retellings make.
Collection facts sourced from Wikipedia, CoinDesk and the Infinite Node Foundation, with every figure carrying its date and its publication in the row it appears in. Where a claim is an allegation it is attributed to the person or outlet that made it rather than stated as fact. Where a fact could not be sourced, and the Pudgy Penguins illustrator is the case here, the page says so instead of filling the gap. Prices and floors are dated snapshots, not live figures. Nothing on this page is a price forecast.
The Rest Of The Tree
Where these sit in everything else.
Ethereum · Covered, Not Held
The chain these three live on, with the bull case and the case against at the same weight.
Solana NFT Collections
The twenty five busiest by volume, and written breakdowns of five of them.
PENGU · The Solana Token
The Pudgy Penguins token, which is a different asset on a different chain from the collection above.
The Rise Is The Easy Half.
The Turn Is The Lesson.
Every breakdown on this site publishes what went wrong at the same weight as what went right, with a date on each of them.
Not financial advice.
